DENO Students' Journey to New York: Participation in Global Citizen Model United Nations Conference (GCMUN)
From February 22nd to 24th, 2024, at the crossroads of the world, New York City, this vibrant city welcomed a grand international event - the Global Citizens Model United Nations (GCMUN) Conference. And in this conference, a team from China particularly stood out - they were the representatives of DENO students.
In the Golden Hall of the United Nations headquarters, DENO students witnessed the opening ceremony of the GCMUN. Dressed in formal attire, they wore smiles on their faces, their eyes shining with anticipation and excitement. Inside the hall, young generations from all over the world gathered together. They would collectively discuss current affairs, exchange ideas, and engage in an in-depth dialogue about global citizenship responsibilities and obligations.
The GCMUN conference attracted young students from around the world with its unique simulated United Nations experience. The conference took place at the Sheraton Hotel in Times Square, New York, providing participants with a lifelike United Nations platform for deliberations. Here, students took on the roles of diplomats from various countries and engaged in intense debates on current affairs topics. Through activities such as speeches, negotiations, and voting, they experienced the workings of the United Nations, enhancing their international perspectives and cross-cultural communication skills.
The GCMUN conference focuses on student participation and realistic committee simulations, creating an interactive environment that encourages active engagement and meaningful discussions. Its core mission lies in providing the highest educational experience in a fun and stimulating environment, enabling participants to gain an in-depth understanding of international affairs and fostering their global citizenship awareness. Here, students will face various current issues such as climate change, refugee assistance, trade disputes, and more. They will enhance their understanding of various parts of the world and improve their problem-solving skills through interactive discussions. In this multicultural environment, students will gain a better understanding of the diversity of the world and enhance their cross-cultural communication skills.
At 9:00 AM on February 22nd, DENO students arrived at the Golden Hall of the United Nations to join over 2,000 delegates from different countries worldwide for the opening ceremony of the conference. During the opening ceremony, the Secretary-General and chairs of various country committees took the stage to introduce and welcome the attending delegates.
On the GCMUN stage, DENO students represented different countries in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) committee and the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) committee, actively speaking on behalf of their respective country committees in six sessions. They contributed creative ideas and fresh perspectives to address real-world issues that will affect millions of people worldwide. Through this conference, they will continue to enhance their international perspectives and leadership skills, laying a solid foundation for future international cooperation and communication.
In addition to formal sessions, GCMUN also offers various social activities for delegates. At the social event, DENO students engaged in lively conversations with delegates from around the world, sharing their cultures and stories. They learned traditional American dances, tasted various international cuisines, and made many like-minded friends.
On February 24th, during the closing ceremony, Deno students received honor certificates. Their performance was highly praised by the conference organizing committee. This GCMUN journey was not only a highlight of their academic careers but also a memorable and invaluable experience in their lives.
Participating in the Global Citizens Model United Nations Conference was an opportunity for Deno students to transcend borders and gain a deeper understanding of the world. Through this conference, they not only gained knowledge and honed their skills but also developed a deeper understanding and appreciation of the world.
